A week-end in Donegal

One of the many perks of living in Ireland is the possibility to get away for just a week-end! Ireland is a small island where you can get easily to many destinations even just for a short-time.

My brother visited me a few weeks ago and we decided to take him to Donegal in the north west of Ireland.

We rented a car - you can find cheap enough car rentals in Ireland - and hit the road to Donegal which is here:

Donegal is the northern part of Ireland and it's part of the famous Wild Atlantic Way. There you can find mountains to climb, cliffs to admire, beaches you can only dream of - and one of them is the 2nd most beautiful beach in ...the world! (it's Ballymastocker Bay) - and a landscape like you can only see in the West part of Ireland, where the mountains and the ocean play a game of war and love giving birth to a breath-taking coast line.

The photo above was taken in Melmore head.

We were in Donegal for only 2 days and it wasn't enough to see everything so the places I would be recommended here are the ones we've done and we loved. But there are many mores to see. If you are planning a trip there I would recommend you to visit these sites: www.govisitdonegal.com/

Melmore Head

A magical place! Park you car next to the bungalows and put on your good shoes to go explore the peninsula, each meters you make you get a different point of view, a new amazing sight. It's hard to put words on the beauty of this place so here are some pictures:

Lindsey's

After Melmore Head we stayed in a great airbnb that I warmly recommend to you at Lindsey's. She was one of the nicest and loveliest host we had. Her house is beautiful, with an amazing view and the price is really really correct for what you get. Here's the link to her house: click here

And you should definitely get the full Irish breakfast, it's only 5€ per person and it's amazing: only homemade fresh products!

Mount Errigal and its national park

The sunday we headed to Slieve league but before we stopped on a nice hidden beach recommended by Lindsey! You have to go down Carrickart and head like you were going to enter the gulf course. The beach is indicated on a small sign - Tara.

After a short walk on the beach, we drove to Mount Errigal. The road was amazing! We had such a beautiful weather and it is really a nice road there, lost in the middle of kind of a desert with mountains and lakes.

Silver Strand beach

We finally reached our first stop and unfortunately the last one: Silver Strand beach. I really wanted to go there as I read it was an amazing beach -and it was. But unfortunately there are no direct roads to reach Slieve League from there and we didn't have time to go all the way down again till the cliffs so we couldn't reach Slieve League. But after that road trip we are defintely going to go back there.
